No matter how you’ve lost your teeth, replacing them with dental implants is the best way to take back your life and start living it on your terms again.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a permanent tooth replacement option that relies on three parts: a post, usually made of titanium, an abutment, and a dental crown.
Why do I replace missing teeth?
Replacing missing teeth is essential to your overall oral health. Not only will it restore the appearance of your smile and your self-confidence, but there are serious oral health implications associated with not replacing missing teeth, including:
- Bone loss
- Shifting teeth
- Facial structure and appearance changes
- Increased susceptibility to tooth decay and periodontal disease
Dental implants aren’t just an investment in your appearance and your self-confidence. They’re an investment in your oral health. Talk to your dentist at Riverbend Family Dental about whether or not implants are the best option for you.
Benefits of dental implants
Dental implants are one of the most secure options when it comes to tooth replacement. Some reasons people consider dental implants include:
- Implants are permanent and can last up to 25 years
- Prevent further bone loss and enhance your overall oral health
- Restore the appearance of your smile, boosting your self-confidence
- Dental implants are custom-designed to look and feel like your natural teeth
- You don’t have to worry about your implants falling out or being uncomfortable, giving you the freedom to live your life the way you want to live it
What to expect while getting dental implants
Getting dental implants usually takes at least two visits. During the first appointment, your Meridian dentist will place the implants in your jawbone. After this, your jawbone and the implants will undergo a process called osteointegration wherein the implant will fuse to your jawbone. This process can take any between 6 weeks and 6 months.
Once your jawbone has healed, our doctors will attach abutments to the implants, which serve as anchors for the crowns. Once your dental implants are placed, you will go through an adjustment period. Our dentist and dental team will give you tips to adjust to your implants and are always available to you to answer any questions you might have about this period.

Are dental implants right for me?
Dental implants are an excellent option for most people. However, you do need to have enough bone structure to support the implants. Our doctors at Riverbend Family Dental will take comprehensive x-rays to determine whether or not you are a candidate for dental implants.
Types of dental implants available
- Single: A single implant, or crown, will be designed specifically to blend in with your natural teeth.
- Multiple: If you are replacing multiple teeth, getting multiple implants is probably the best option.
- All-on-4: If you’re missing a whole arch, or a whole row of teeth, all-on-4 can replace all of your teeth with only 4 or 6 implants.
- Implant-supported bridge: An implant-supported bridge uses a dental implant to hold a dental bridge in place, replacing multiple teeth with only one or two implants.
- Implant-supported dentures: Implant-supported dentures use implants to anchor removable dentures in place while you wear them.

How much do dental implants cost?
Dental implants do come with a hearty upfront investment. However, most patients find that the initial investment is well worth the benefits.
